What is River King Forge?

River King Forge was started in 2017 in Live Oak, TX by USAF veteran, Matt Cota. Matt is not just another knife maker, but creates functional art and heirlooms that can be passed down for generations. River King Forge is proud to be a supporter and volunteer instructor for the San Antonio non-profit, Reforged that supports the veterans and first-responders through bladesmithing and therapy. Matt was also featured on History Channel’s Forged in Fire “Supersized” for Season 9, Episode 22.

Original Tool Designs

River King Forge Lobo

The Lobo is a 4.8” bladed recurve hunter (9.75” overall length) designed by Matt Cota with a false-edged swedge for increased penetration designed for swift cleaning of game and fish. The Lobo comes standard as a full tang blade with a 3/16” thick spine to create a durable knife that will last a lifetime with proper care and maintenance. The Lobo can be customized with a gut-hook, 90° spine for ferro rod, or as a hidden tang handle.

River King Forge Pronghorn

The Pronghorn is a 5” bladed drop-point hunter (10” overall length) designed by Matt Cota and is designed to be the perfect all-around outdoor tool. The Pronghorn’s design allows for easy penetration of game and fish, but with the versatility to handle any job that is needed while in the outdoors. The Pronghorn comes standard with a 3/16” thick, full-tang handle, but can be customized with a hidden tang, false edge, or a 90° spine for ferro rods.

River King Forge Roadrunner

The Roadrunner is 3.3” bladed (7.3” overall length) bird and trout designed by Matt Cota. The Roadrunner is designed to be a smaller knife for cleaning out game and fish swiftly and effectively. Roadrunners come standard with a 1/8 in. thick spine and full-tang handle, but can be customized to have a hidden tang, false edge, or a 90° spine for ferro rod.

River King Forge Little Bear

The Little Bear is 2.5” bladed bushcraft tool designed by Isaiah Cota. The Little Bear is specifically made as a youth sized tool for learning outdoor skills. The Little Bear comes standard as a 1/8 in. thick, full-tang handle, but can be customized with a hidden tang handle and a 90° spine for ferro rod.

River King Forge Redtail

The Redtail is a 3.5” bladed (7.62” overall length) tactical karambit designed by Matt Cota. Redtail are designed specifically to be well balanced and razor sharp with a hollow grind. Redtail come standard with a kydex sheath with a tec-lock adjustable belt clip that can adjust to the way that you want to carry. Standard Redtails come with 1/8 ” full-tang handle. Customizations can include a false-edge or dual-edged.

River King Forge Cutthroat

The Cutthroat is a 4.5” bladed hunting tool with a false-edged swedge by Matt Cota. The Cutthroat is designed specifically to be taken along for outdoor adventures without being oversized. The standard Cutthroat has a 1/8” thick spine with a hidden tang handle. Customizations can include a sharpened swedge, a 90° spine for ferro rod, or a full-tang construction.

River King Forge Javelina

The Javelina is 3.75” bladed hunting tool designed by Matt Cota. The Javelina has a compound ground bevel to allow for versatility with the way the blade can be used. The Javelina comes with a swedge with a false-edge and gut-hook that allows for a wide variety of applications while in the outdoors. The standard Javelina has a 1/8” thick spine with a hidden tang handle. Customizations can include a sharpened swedge, a 90° spine for ferro rod, or a full-tang construction.
